So, yeah, I graduated for Homeschool in 1998, I worked for all sorts of places, but the people I like working for best is....

ME!

Yeah, I know it makes me sound anti-social (I'm not, I'm just anti-normal society)

But I like the way I think (strange, I know) And I want to do something different. I always wanted to be an inventor when I grew up (or a con artists, I wasn't always completely decided) God showed me that being a con artists was out of the picture, so I have been trying to work for myself for a while now.

The problem is that if you don't got any money it's pretty hard to make any.

Not impossible, I didn't say that, but I did have to move to TX to start my own thing, because living in Ca and starting a biz without a loan or cash is pretty much impossible (just move, really)

So, now I import pearls from China, and sell cookware at Sam's clubs all over the US. I like my wife... err, life, I'm not married, although the right person might be able to change that... hmm, what was I talking about?

Oh yeah, So, I had to work 70 hour weeks in order to save up $400 to start my biz which was basically, the cheapest web site package, and my first order from China, you have to look like your a really big stable business to get the best prices, and in today's economy, your pretty much sunk unless you do.

I started a couple other web-sites and they all made at least a small amount of cash before they kinda fizzled out due to bad timing.

I am imspired by thomas edison, he was pretty old before he hit it big time, so I figure I should keep plugging away at stuff, and eventually, Lord willing, I will make it (then the women will flock to me like ducks to bread) and all my dreams will come true.

Of course one can't be a sloutch, you can;t just take other people's word for things, you gotta tweak the stuff that didn't work and make it work, like for example, the history of chewing gum. First it was an adhesive that really wasn't making it, a twist, and it became an edible, later the big companies monopolized the market, making it nigh to insane to try making money on it yourself, then the northridge earthquake hit CA, someone bright person had the idea to repackage it take out the sugar and call it "quake hold" Ironically, an adhesive, and he got rich on it... well not crazy rich, but the guy could afford to get a house cash, knowwhatimean?

So, yeah, right now I am living in a single-wide, eating hot dogs for lunch, but I'm not discouraged, because sooner or later, my hard work is going to pay off, and maybe I will be able to make the world just a slightly better place.

I am an English major whose only reason for not becoming a journalism major was the liberal slant of the press. I also did not want to be part of the NEA so I taught in private schools for about ten years before coming home to help my own children. I have home schooled my children for over ten years. I most recently have also been home schooling a friend's child. Education and language are passions of mine. Now that I have prefaced this post with an explanation of my viewpoint, let me say something about my fist impressions of this site.

I am searching for information about home schooling high school students. This sounded like the place to come. However, upon reading this post, the first and only one I have read on this site, I am appauled. ::) The grotesque spelling errors speak nothing positive of home schooling in general. Since the poster may actually only come across as having a lack of ambition, having written a post which was simply misread by me, I will only mention the appearance of a devil-may-care attitude. No lovely picture is painted here, no matter who looks at it. I do hope other home schooled indiviuals will rally around this site and check their spelling as well as the content of thier posts, if indeed, this site is to continue. At the present time, this site is a sad misrepresentation of the average home school graduate. :'(

This is a new age, one where English is moving and changing at a greater rate than any new books (or at least books that are going to be used) will be willing to point out.

The phases of words changing from slang to common usage is a faster process than ever before, and also the commonly held way of writing in my opinion denotes the language written, not a book that only people in certain professions follow.

As for grammar, whatever grammar is identical to the commonly used talking form of the language is generally the more understandable form.

If the goal of language is to be understood, then whatever is most easily understood to the target audience is the best way of speaking or writing.

If one only speaks to those born in the united states and is an English snob (as most English majors are) then they will miss the opportunities to tweak the language towards the audience intended, thereby reducing the amount of misunderstanding involved.

As far as spelling errors and punctuation, well guilty as charged.

It does however infuriate me that the responder missed the entire point of the essay which was that I have made sacrifices in order to attain my goals and am going to keep trying no matter the odds until I get to my goals.


However where I live and what I eat is probably the only thing she is reacting to, clearly this is a sign of a snob.

I can tell she lives in a relatively good neighborhood, eats right and all that jazz. Which is fine. However the disdain she has for someone who could allow themselves to be comfortable living in less than great circumstances shows her character.

I don't have the best skills when it comes to writing, but at least I do not look at people from different backgrounds with annoyance or intolerance.

The thing that I was able to get the most out of homeschooling is not to be judgmental of other people without valid reason. To be able to think about social and societal questions without having an answer forced upon me. To be able to see from history the likely consequences of my actions or inactions.

Sadly this person has not had that experience and in my opinion this kind of hauteur is more indicative of private schooling rather than the majority of homeschoolers.

The homeschoolers I have met are open to accepting other people's lifestyles or at least will seek to understand them before issuing judgment.

Right now, I am growing my business, and have hired an employee, the money I invested has doubled and returned to me, I have re-invested it and am going to be further growing my business using the models of people who have immigrated to the united states and gone from very little to very much.

I however will not look back at my time living in a single-wide with disgust, God has always watched over me and has not forgotten me in this time of less.

On a side-note, I am the one who bought and set up this site... which is odd because she seems to like the idea behind it, even though she obviously does not understand it, as she clearly is not a homeschooler herself... come on people, this is for ex-homeschoolers, there are hundreds of homeschool mom sites.
